There is a great service available in San Francisco to get you and your car home safely after a night on the town.  It is called BeMyDD.com.  This company has two services.  The first involves supplying you with a chauffeur to come to your house, drive you around in your car for as long as you want, wait for you outside, then drive you home.  This service costs $15 per hour, and requires a minimum of 3 hours.

The second service involves the sober driver coming to you after you are too drunk to drive home.  The service dispatches two drivers in the same car.  When they get to your location, one driver takes you home in your car while the other driver follows.  When you get home, the person who drove you gets back in with the other driver, and they leave to go pick up other drunks.

The price of this second service in San Francisco is $25, plus $2.95 per mile for the first 10 miles, and $1.50 per mile for each mile after.  Keep in mind; you do have to pay for the mileage to get to your location.  There is a handy calculator on their website that tells you how much your ride home will cost.  I put in the hypothetical ride home from AT&T Park to Sunset Blvd and Ortega St, in the Outer Sunset District.  This is about as far as a person could drive across San Francisco.  The total amount would be $57.91.  That is not a bad deal, considering you are avoiding the possibility of a DUI, and you won’t have to worry about leaving your car overnight.

For either service there is a $25 yearly membership fee, after a 30 day free trial.

Reservations can be scheduled online at www.BeMyDD.com, or by calling them at 1-877-U-BEMYDD (823-6933).  They also have a mobile app available for the iPhone, Droid, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile.

With this service there really is no excuse for driving under the influence in San Francisco, or anywhere else this service is offered.  The cost of having one of their drivers take you home is insignificant next to the costs of getting a DUI or endangering other people.
